I was about to do the timing on my wife's truck and mine with the snap-on timing set for the Dodge/Cummins trucks. I was wondering if you had to pull the gear housing cover or if you could just pop the gear off with the cover on and do the timing? Any advice would be great.

Just pop the gear off with the housing on. If memory serve's me correct you take out the oil filler tube and its directly in line with that hole for the puller.

 

YEP, Memory serves you correct!!!! Just pull the oil filler tube and it is right there. Remember to tighten the upper part of the filler snuggley or it will want to unscrew when you go to pull the filler cap.
