12 valve idles too high

I have a 98 12v and the truck idles at 1100 rpm. What would make it idle high and what is it supposed to idle at?

I too have this problem. I can force the linkage down, but it comes right back up. Mine is stuck at ~900. Liveable , but still confusing. Maybe I have a sticking linkage somewhere.

Do this with the engine running and in Park. With your right arm burried in there at the adjustment screw, ..use your left arm and reach for the throttle rod/lever that goes between the back of pump and TPS, ..rev the engine a little to take the trension off of the adjusting screw (obviously after you've loostened the 10mm locknut). 900 when out of gear is about what you want. But, check it in gear with AC on, ..shoot for 750, but 800 is better.

your linkage may be binding or not adjusted right, make sure the return springs are pulling the throttle closed.

Fairly common for the throttle return spring(s) end to break off, they can then fall off and be totally gone.
Spring from the hardware store is an easy fix.

Sometimes the throttle cable gets frayed and the wires sticking out hold it open. There was even a recall on this. Check the cable!!

there is an another adjustment right above the idle adjustment that has 4 or 5 holes in it, its connected to the throttle linkage and if not adjusted right will not allow full movment of the linkage.

thanks for everyones help. I will check the linkage while its running tommorow I think there is something wrong with my cables because when you press the pedal, its easy till about 80% throttle, then you have to press harder for wide open throttle.

Sounds normal if the engine isn't running.
Start it and my bet is it will become easy.

The throttle recall is #970. That is the code the dealer will look under. Call your dealer with your VIN# and they will be able to tell you if the work has been done or not. It made a difference for me, my cable was really frayed.
