4 wheel drive

hey guys. I am getting conflicted reports from a lot of people. I have always been told that you should keep it below 65 mph when in 4 wheel drive, but then I hear about people runnin it in 4 when doin the quarter mile. anyone have any input on safe travel speeds in 4 wheel drive?

It seems like 65 would be as fast as anyone would want to go on a road that had so little traction that 4WD was needed. On the other hand, driving on a dry highway in 4WD is not the best plan either and not recommended at any speed.

I can't see why 65 is some magical limit. Clearly drag racers go way faster than that.

My Dad used to drive a military ambulance and he would run it in 4WD on the highway because it prevented death wobble.

I would use it on the highway any time the roads were snow-covered or known to be icy. The rear end is so light it can easily get away from you on slippery roads. Everything in the front end is always turning anyway, so there's not much difference being in 4wd when you're traveling in a relatively straight line.

As far as high speeds go, mine has been tested to 105.5mph!

With modern trucks, you can run 4WD high at any speed you want. You should not run a locking transfer case, like we have in these trucks, in 4WD on dry pavement as its a lot of wear and tear.

Some trucks have an AWD case, and you run those full time with little wear.

Keeps speeds way down in 4WD low.
