very old dodge steering (not diesel )
I don't know where to go for advise so thought someone here may have some
information for me.
I have 2 Ram CTD's a 2001 and a 2013 but my problem is with a 1964 Dodge
D 100 it was my parents truck and now my daughters.
The old beast runs beautiful and I have kept it going for my daughter all these years but am stumped now.
the problem is the steering has became very loose and you have to really work to keep it on the road (hit a bump and you had better be hanging on)
I tried to take it to a shop but no one around here would even look at it.
Anybody have any ideas for me ?
The 2001 CTD also seems to be going that way also ??

Steering and suspension parts wear, and alignment goes out. Repair and align.
Bad shocks add a whole new dimension of ya-hoo to the steering on these old Dodges as well.

You have a couple of problems, first you are in Hawaii, probably not that many old school mechanics.
Second you have a solid front axle with Kingpins. Not too many mechanics these days will tackle them.
By chance, is there a semi repair shop around? Perhaps they will take pity on you and help keep a cool old Dodge on the road.
Be advised though, they can be a real buggar to do and be pricey.

Lucky for me the old Dodge and 2 Rams are in California. and I am until November ( Gets cold head to Hawaii )
I have a shop with a very good reputation who has told me that they will work on it if I tell them what is wrong and where to get the parts. They said they would diagnose but it would be very pricey and they have no old timers working there.
That is why I am here I hope to get some things to check out to find the problem and possibly someone has a link to a place that may have parts for old Dodges ?

Hopefully you have manual steering, the power steering stuff for those are hard to find.
Also, Sweptline.ORG - Home Page has parts and a forum dedicated to these old girls.
