Steering/trackbar upgrade on-deck - need PNs

Hey all,

I've searched a couple of times and can't find a writeup with part numbers for the "T" steering upgrade.

I am keeping my ride height stock, running stock 265/70 tires with alloys, will be doing some towing but not often. I do not currently have death wobble, but the front end does wander a little bit and Les Schwab helpfully informed me that there were a bunch of parts that needed replacement already.

So I need a full on rebuild - or want to do it once rather than piecemeal.

The truck is a heavy-2500 (dana 80 rear) 4x4 6spd with camper package

I think what I'd like to do is a DSS, a 3rd-gen T steering update and a redhead steering box (mine leaks). Is there a one-stop shop for this upgrade? I've come across a number of threads listing parts picked up from o'reily or NAPA, but none have part numbers and a few describe issues with the 01s.

Sorry all, my head hurts from searching and reading and searching and reading and not finding what I need.

Charlie

Two options provided in the linked thread. one for napa parts and one for the mopar retrofit. Mopar costs about 200 bucks less. better for stock ya think or just worth less?

[stock ride height, that is]

Gonna go with the Mopar I think.

Idiot question: What is the bar called that goes from the axle backward to the frame to control the axle's twisting? it's pressed steel and the passenger side one is bent due to the PO's little accident. just wanna know what to order with my rebuild kit..

I would run the 4th gen steering linkage mopar part# 52122362AH and buy a new 2nd gen pitman arm. Way bigger pieces and way less death woobieness.

Get a 2nd gen to 3rd gen trackbar adapter, and buy a new 3rd gen track bar

If you have an 2000-02 truck, you could also upgrade the front/rear brakes to 3rd gen

The bars behind the front axle are control arms. Should be easy find.

DSS sells control arms, 3rd gen track bar kits, steering box braces.

Install 5100 bilsteins and get one for the steering dampener. A new steering gearbox is also something to look into, as the 2nd gen tend to wear out fast.

Edited because I did some more research.

I was confused - the track bar and steering upgrade are two different things...

So for now I'll go to Mopar T-steering, a DSS and my Redhead rebuilt box

And for my next silly question: How important are the control-arms? It looks like the right lower got whacked on a rock and the mounts don't look great either. Obviously it has an effect, but they don't "look" too far off. I didn't stick a tape on it, but the wrinkles don't look major enough to change lengths more than a tiny tiny bit. FWIW, Les Schwab didn't register it when they had it up on the lift to tell me how much more money I should spend with them after I bought tires.

Thanks,
C

In the case of a 97 3500, would the MOPAR steering gear be the preferred replacement part?

I think the part #52122362AH looks way bigger than the part number ending in AF, this is a great thread!
