Newbie Needs help
Howdy Guys, I need alittle advice please. I am looking at a 1989 Dodge, 3/4 Ton standard cab, 4x4 with the Cummins. The engine has 349,00 on it, the injector pump was replaced at 300,000 and tranny rebuilt at the same time. He states that maint was done reg, and that it uses no oil yet. The truck seems to drive out fine. My question is....... If this engine has been maintained well, how many more miles could I exspect to get out of it?
I can pick it up for 2500.00
Any input will be very very helpful
Thanks
Bill

talked to someone a while back with 1,250,000 or so... several guys on here have over 400,000. i'd say the engine could go for a long time, how's the body of the truck?

Thanks for the great info guys. The body is in good shape. Alittle rust on the doors, buts thats about all. Glad to hear that if the ol engine was taken care of, then the milage is not a problem.
I will be picking your brains alot...hope ya dont mind

Where at in Indiana? At $2500, probly means you'll be dumping that much or more into to get the rest of the truck up to snub. Axles, t-case, most definately suspension, tranny again, etc rebuilds/work. Then if you just want it for a ranch truck then don't worry about the out of alignment/ tire eating front end, sagging rearend, previous owner welds on spider gears, axle u joints, driveshaft u joints, then again maybe not . I wouldn't worry too much about the miles on the engine. Check the oil level, color, taste , and coolant colors, check for oil in coolant and vice versa. But not all old Dodges are in this bad condition .

No thats not mean that true!!! how many of these body styles do you honestly see driving around that are gassers? I would say that 90+% of the ones I see are cummins
