Newbie needs help Updated 1/16/06

I have a 98 12 valve, it is sitting at G7R Diesel in Draper Ut. GREAT SHOP! Anyway I think I have seized a bearing. Here are my ques.
1. Where is the best place to buy a long/short block?
2. I have some pretty niffty mods, small lift,tire/wheels,tranny, motor etc. Is it worth putting in a new motor? The truck has 140000 miles. I hate to loose all my mods by selling and starting over? Ant advice is greatly appreciated.

If the truck is in good shape and your love it (like most of us love ours). Its defintely worth putting a new block in! .... 40+k for a new truck or about 3k for a block on a truck you already have "history" with... You see where I'm going

WOW. That is early for you to have trouble like that. I vote for a new block too. Let us know how it goes.

Please let us know, when you find out, what the cause of your bearing failure was. For educational purposes. Thanks.

Yep, I hate it when your mech. says " I've never seen this before". My truck has never been chipped. It been turned up. Straight pipe. etc. I have a full stack and oem gauges NOTHING was out of parameters? It was a little hot but well within safe on everything.
My only advice at this point is when something just dosent feel right heed the warning. I felt something was just a tad off. I should have paid more attention. I'll let ya know whats up.

PS The first thing I checked on the side of the road was my oil level and it was good. Smoke was comming out of the hole though.

If you just seized a bearing it can be still possible to reface the crankshaft and install undersize bearings. Engine has to be pulled to do it, but it might be much cheaper than a short or longblock.

Alpine, the only problem with a tear down is I have to pay for the tear down then if the crank is shot Im screwed. I see your point hell i see everyones point. I have a info overload...But I appreciate it! It looks like a clip probably or just a failed bearing. Un fortunately I will probably never know for sure? I found a used motor with 75K on it. It is really the best $ solution out there. I got some personal info on the motor, It was owned by a little old lady that just drove her truck to bingo on wed. night. Yea right. but I did find out it is out of a friend of a friends truck that got rear ended. i could nor afford to loose all the $ in mods so I have (want need they all work here) to fix it. I'll keep you all posted.

When you get the new engine take th old one with you- invest 99US$ for a factory service manual and tear down the old one.
You'll learn a lot about these engines, you may be able to fix it or part it out to sell the parts and recoup some of your costs.

Yea I'll deff. keep her or sell it to my mech. They want some of the stuff. The only core the seller wants is the injecto pump. I get the turbo and everything else.
