New Medium Duty Ram March 1

Just got my new issue of Light & Medium Truck magazine. Inside is a full page article from DC announcing the unveiling of the new medium duty Ram on March 1. I assume this will be done in conjunction with the Work Truck Show going on in Atlanta that week. It has a picture of all of the Dodge vehicles used commercially including what appears to be a 3rd generation cab/chassis but it is covered up until the unveiling. It says for more info go to www.fleet.chrysler.com and then click on New Dodge.
This is long overdue. Rumor has it the truck will come with the Cummins 6.7L
but I cannot confirm that.
My old 97 cab/chassis just turned 500K so I may have to upgrade!!!!

No it doesn't. When I clicked on it, it brought up a link to fill out a email card they will send you when they unveil it.

That link says the new truck will use the NV5600 transmission. I doubt that - my understanding is that the NV5600 is out of production, having been replaced by the MB-designed G56 that is now in production CTD manuals (including mine).

This makes even more sense when you find that the G56 was originally designed by MB as a medium-duty truck transmission. Even our stout 3500's are considered "light" trucks by the industry, and it gives me great comfort that my transmission is, if anything, is OVERengineered for the engine and truck on which it's mounted.

There is a new cab-and-chassis program with new medium-duty trucks. The 4500 and 5500 (yes, those are the names) are to be built with custom frames at a Freightliner facility (the frames themselves are from Freightliner, the new M2 class). It will be built in regular and quad cabs, with an optional new 6.7 liter Cummins turbodiesel and a new six-speed automatic (probably the same one Freightliner or Sterling uses, not a Chrysler model). Expect four different lengths, and dual fuel tanks.

OOOOOO, a Freightliner frame! Now that is just too cool......all I can say is that it is about time!

6.7 CTD/ 6 spd Aisin auto/ Freightliner frame - what a combo.....makes me wonder just what axles will be under the 4500/5500?

Is there any possibility that the new chassis will have a dually's payload capacity while only using single rear wheels??
