Help, VP44 dead

VP44 died while driving and had to tow it home.
P1688
P0251
P0252
P0253

Going to replace both LP and VP44

Can anyone point me to the Diesel Dan's videos on the VP44 R&R?, or any other pictures/videos on the removal and install?

Thx

Mike

I changed mine last Fall after it died, a lot easier than I thought! Took me less time than changing the injectors did. The video is worth watching, really a pretty easy job.

Good luck.

You might look at BlueTec for the VP. They will let you use the tool you need at No cost. They always install a new compuet, which is why there's costs more. they also have detailed instructions on the procedure.

All rebuilt VPs use the "new computer".
I used a regular steering wheel puller instead of the special tool. Worked great.

I am not so sure that all rebuilders put in a new computer. I understand that they do "Pass/fail" on the existing computer. If it Passes, you may get a years old CPU, which may be 3-5 years old. CPU's seem to be the single largest problem with the VP's.
This is why some vp's are $500 more than others.
If this is not true, I would like to see some discussion on this.

I'm pretty sure my VP died from electronic failure, not mechanical. Running fine one minute, let it idle down awhile, and then died when I put it in gear. One too many heat cycles.
