Review of my 560 mile tow trip (w/ pictures!)
I bought my truck to tow trailers for my old man. This weekend I finally had the opportunity to do that! I towed a flat deck gooseneck trailer with the man for on it for 560 miles. If anyone has traveled on I-80 though Illinois and Iowa, you know there are some substantial grades for the Midwest area. I made certain I had my pyro and boost installed before the trip so I could keep an eye on things. The old 12 valve kept up with all the other trucks (1999 24 valve and 2 duramax's). Roughly 21,000 combined vehicle and trailer weight. I still got 11 mpg on two tanks! Peak egt of 1400 F but after that I made sure to keep it right at 1000 F (because what's the point of the pyro if I don't use it to my advantage and). This trip has made
me fall in love with my truck again, although I didn't know that was possible. Next mods, BHAF and intake, 3200 spring, and toyin with the idea of hx35 and hx52 compound set up.
The load. Right around 12,500 pounds
All of the trucks lined up at the rest park. I couldn't resist taking a few pictures!
SO glad I had these!!! Pyro and boost, didn't have enough time to install the fuel pressure and tach
And these LED lights! They don't make it so bright so they blind people, but man do they help with the visibility!
The LED's were especially helpful
Now that I've gone plum crazy with a double brow, 20% full windshield, 15% on the sides (soon to be 5%) and 1% on the back.
And this was just a cool picture if me and my buddy workin on our trucks. Me gettin mine ready for the trip, him just because why have a diesel truck if you're not gonna fiddle with it?! Lol I'm extremely blessed to have a job where I'm able to use the shop after work when I'm living 6 hours away from home.
And I'm done being a picture *****.....fer now!

Hey Jon, cool pics and story.
If you ever need anything running that stretch ( at least thru middle Illinois ) give me a holler, I am 20 miles south of Ottawa, I think exits 90 and 93.
That is one boring stretch of hwy, I used to run to Ames Iowa......

Awesome truck. I like the way you cut the chrome out with silvers and blacks.
Now grab 7 red led's from superbrightleds and change your cluster lights out to match your gauges
Are your LED lights mounted behind the grille?

Thanks! One day I just got tired of the chrome and made it go away with plasti dip haha. Ya the red cluster gauge mod is in the books for sure! Just need to buy the parts. And the LEDs kinda are. More or less recessed. I'm gonna built custom bilets so they can be completely behind.
And I'll keep that in mind patdaly! Thanks!
