Why can't I smoke the tires?

A little water really helps with burnouts. Now in this case, the water was sprayed on the tires and wheel wells to make sure they didn't catch on fire, but nonetheless, a little water really helps.

its not a matter of power... a stock cummins has plenty of power to do a burnout. its the torque management that is standard on all 2000.5+ automatics trucks. it is built into the ECM. Since you have a Smarty you can get rid of about 80% of it, by setting the "Torque" setting to 6. i wouldnt recommend this on a stock tranny though.
The only way to COMPLETELY get rid of Tq management is to install a BD RAD (aka top speed eliminator). When the RAD (Race Anti-Defueler) is switched on, your tach will stop functioning, and it will throw a CEL. this is normal. however you can finally do boosted launches on your late model 2nd gen automatic, and do uninhibited burnouts.
i just broke my output shaft doing a 20lb launch. it works good lol.
