Help Me Decide!!!

We currently only have one vehicle. Truck in sig. Wife is tired of dragging kids around town in the Dodge. Understandably so, she wants her own car, something smaller. Truck is paid for so thats what makes it tough. I live 3 miles from work so Ive been riding my bicycle back and forth. Im thinking about trading in my truck on a car for my wife and buying an older 12V to pull the fifth wheel when we can afford it. Any thoughts? I just feel like Im going to regret not having a truck as soon as its gone. Thanks.

Hey, buddy.

I will give you some useful comments this time, not like usual

You can always get another truck... having something the wife is happy with is important, she's the one that is important.

How much do you really use the truck for what it is designed for? I'd miss your truck if you sold it too, but you'd probably get a really nice car in trade, and you could buy a newer truck later. (I wouldn't mind having a 6.7 to play with and some new creature comforts, I won't lie.)

You'll save a good bit of money in the long run on fuel and maintenance, too. It's just the three of you, right?

If you ever need a truck, I have two you can choose from. (I'll take the smarty out of mine before I loan it to you, tho!)

I really would like to get Angie a BMW X5 or X6, maybe an Audi cross over, something like that. I know that's not in your cards right now, but you could mod that too!

Hope it's helpful, brother. I would do it if I were you.

1. When Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy.

2. Why take huge depreciation on a late model truck? A pristine first or second gen 2WD can be had for way south of 10G, and will sit there and wait till you want to go, (unlike a horse, it doesn't eat when not ridden) and then reliably pull yer fiver all over the country with ease, and if you keep it clean likely will not depreciate any more.

Thats really what Im leaning toward. Just getting her something she enjoys because I dont use the truck for anything other than pulling the toy hauler or random truck duties here and there. Theres four of us, not that it makes much difference. Were looking at a cross over and for what I can get for the truck, Id be ahead with the payments. I figure its worth around $15k trade and $17k or so sold outright.

I think it's worth more than that, buddy. I'd hope so, at least.

I have been struggling with the same situation. I no longer use my truck for what I bought it for, business & hauling for my construction company, which I have closed. However it is paid for and gets about 20 on the highway, plus it is in near mint condition with 120K on it.

A guy the other day asked me how I liked the new 6.7 Cummins and I said I hadn't tried it. He said I MUST have it in my truck and I told him that it is an '01 and wasn't available til 07-08 so how could I have it in mine. I think he felt kinda dumb then cuz he said he thought my truck was newer than that. It was a compliment, but I don't think he was all together up top!

You can always get another truck easier than another lovely lady!

Keep the truck and buy her a good used car. New car prices are crazy these days. Sounds like you are going to have a payment anyway.

Yes yes yes.. I agree completely..

To quantify Spoolers statement, Once the truck is gone its gone. Then you have to start over with a much larger payment. You can always look for an older truck but then the mod/upgrade process starts all over again and in the end you wind up spending a ton more money. You apparently have your truck set up exactly as you want it and eventually your not going to want to ride your bike to work.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I appreciate the input from everyone. We're gonna bite the bullet and get her a newer used car and keep the truck. I dont want to start the whole mod process over again or have payments on two vehicles vice one. The Marine Corps is going to make me a Captain sometime in the next year so things wont be so tight then. We'll recover from the new payment with ease.

Thanks for you service.
