Oil Pressure Sensor, 4921511 IS NOT THE RIGHT PART!!!

I have researched this topic intently now over multiple sites and was confident enough in the overwhelming use and seemingly success of the oil pressure sensor part # 4921511 that I ordered it. I finally had time to try and install it only to find that it is not the correct part. Both the original sensor and the replacement are 3 prong sensors, but the harness connector is smaller and the replacement sensore prongs are to large to fit in the factory harness connector.

I can't find any other references to another oil sensor part #. The only other one was 4088390 which cummins says is superceded by the above part #.

Anyone have any ideas of another part # or a solution to make this part work, like a wireing harness adapter?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Brad

Don't know the part #'s.... but the sensor was redesigned at least once for the 02's and later.
The one I got for my 02 was heftier... had bigger prongs than previous sensors.
Good luck! If you can, take yours with you to a dealer for comparison.

4088390 is the original part # if u give that # to a parts guy it will be superceded. mine went last month, i just rolled the dice and bought the same part # cause mine lasted 10.5 years. there is a guy on ebay selling them for cheap http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CUMMI...ehicleQ5fParts

cummins parts with nx are remans, nothing wrong with that 1 month on my new sensor from this guy no probs. ive gotten quotes of $88-110 from local truck parts stores.

The 4088390 gauranteed to fit a 99

If thats the case - put in an aftermarket oil pressure guage.

That is an option. But how would you stop the constant dinging sound from the malfunctioning factory gauge?

You could try and get the wiring harness that goes with it and swap the connectors so it would work.

my sensor failed about a year ago it stuck in the high posn, so for a yr I never got any ding ding, I'm guessing if you go the mechanical gauge route you could put a resistor between the wiring or short them together and see what reads on the dash, I ended up getting one from the Cummins dealer for 80$ (mine is an 01)

Thats not a bad idea, my only concern would be that they changed the output of the sensor... Might need to start looking at some junkyards to see if they have anything. My experience is that these trucks don't seem to stay long in junk yards.

Get the CPL # off of your engine id plate. Its the Control Parts List, #. Your local truck shop or Cummins dealer can look up the part# for you from this list and the part will be correctly ordered. Mine was around $115.00 from KW Northwest and looked different but works. Its even more accurate than the old one.

Good Luck, Kurt

When I gave the Cummins parts man my part # he asked if it was for a Ford or a Dodge. At that time the same part was used on a Ford and Dodge but with different connectors for each.

Sorry, Strong. I think you need to find a new Cummins dealer.

I feel your pain!!

I'm going through the same thing on my '99. I'm still chasing a gremlin that disable the truck once in a great while, so I decided just to replace all the **** sensors. Crank sensor, Cam sensor, Oil pressure, MAP sensor, etc. Only thing is, the 3 wire Oil Sensor has (according to my Cummins dealer) been superceded by a ONE wire sensor (Part number 4076930). It's very cheap, at around $12.00, but you need to also purchase an adaptor kit (cable part number 3164754) AND have the ECM 'recalibrated'. I'm not crazy about that, but I could live with it, IF, I could find the connector to plug the one and only pin from the cable into. The picture shows a round many pin connector, and I'm supposed to insert the pin into cavity 'K'. I can't find anything like it, within range of the 18 or so inch long cable that plugs onto the oil pressure switch.
