wheel bearing

so after a 4hr drive last night both my front hubs started squeelin. they were very hot to the touch. you couldn't put your finger on them for more than a few seconds. i'm assuming i toasted the wheel bearings in both front hubs? i called up the auto parts store before i started tearing it down and they won't sell me just a wheel bearing. they want $275 for the entire hub assembly including bearings and cant even get it to me until tomorrow. why cant i just buy a new wheel bearing? i haven't torn it apart yet but i heard it's different from a traditional wheel bearing setup. any advice would be great.. thanks alot

They are right , they can't sell you just a bearing , because you can not buy just a bearing , you have to buy the entire hub assembly. As far as not being the " traditional" style wheel bearing , times are changing , these type are basically the norm now.
