Whats your idle speed?

My truck idles at about 800-850rpm. My Dad says its high. Should be around 500rpm. Is he right? Is there a way too adjust this?

All I can find would be that idle speed is controlled by the ECM, using the APPS ( Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor ) . Or maybe you have a cable hanging up? Floor mat?

My 2001 is 700 ish seems to high

24V trucks with the electronic VP-44 pump idle much higher. 800-900 is correct. 12v engines can be turned down to 400-500 like mine is, the advantage is they dont creep forward on automatics and burn less fuel on the downhills. the disadvantages are they dont idle well when cold and when driveing agressivly at low speeds sometimes stall when letting off from full throttle to idle quickly.

800 - 850 rpm is perfectly normal for a 24 valve. 500 is too low.

You can't change it even if you wanted to.
