Vacationing in Tennessee

I'm going to be spending next week vacationing in central TN. The wife arranged a time share swap so we'll be in Fairfield Glade, just outside of Crossville. Just wondering if anybody in the area had any suggestions of what to do for entertainment. The only thing we have on the schedule now is the East Coast Reined Cowhorse Classic in Harriman. Thanks!

You'll be pretty close to Gatlinburg. If you've never been I would highly suggest going to Gatlinburg. Lots of fun stuff there

Yeah, Crossville is on the other side of Cookeville which is about 80 miles from Nashville. You'll only be about an hour from Knoxville, maybe two from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, highly recommended.

As far as Nashville goes, Bass Pro shops, Opryland hotel with the GIANT indoor gardens, really pretty cool even for us macho diesel fume snortin' guys. Downtown Nashville? I don't know really, lot's of country music stuff, it's hot downtown....humid hot, I work there!!!

Enjoy your stay in Tennessee!!

I spent a few years of my life in Cookeville. Not too much to do in Cookeville or Crossville although I do have great memories of both.

My suggestions are the same as everyone else's try Nashville or Knoxville. You are almost directly between the two so its easy to get to either.

There may be a fair or something going on in Cookeville if you're feeling like that.

i would have to agree on the Gatlinburg, saying i go there about once every couple of months, a good bit of traffic but has some fun stuff, things like Bass pro shop, Knife Works, Dollywood, and of course enough tourist attractions to kill a horse

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm really looking forward to getting away for some down time. We spent a week in TN on our honeymoon back in 2000, stayed in Crossville, Nashville, and Memphis. Really nice part of the country, its a totally different world from up here in the Northeast!

order all the sweet tea you can while you are down here... once you go home they will look at you funny when you try to order it! if the nashville sounds are playing in town try to go to a game minor league baseball is always fun and seats are only $5-$10 plus they do fireworks after every friday and saturday game (for a baseball game the fireworks are awesome). as far a gatlinburg is concerned they have indoor skydiving that i've always wanted to do, give it a shot and tell me how it is, lol.

My folks live in Crossville. I visited them a half dozen times since they moved there. I still haven't seen much unless you like golf. The mountains are alway nice. If you can stand the hike, check out Klingmans Dome, nice and cool up there with plenty to see.

You could also shoot down to Cherokee, NC if you like to gamble.

Thats funny. I went to Michigan when I was sixteen and got that dumb look from a waitress. I was also in Gatlinburg about 8-10 years ago eating at Calhouns and got the same response. "Just mix some sugar in with the unsweetend." Its nowhere near the same
