trailer Hitch Recall

Anybody ever hear of a trailer hitch recal? Recall NHTSA00V107000: Trailer Hitch Bracket Defect

Hitch cracks alont the bend where it bolts to the frame. If it's not cracked, they add a brace to prevent cracking?

This is in the 99-2000's.

Are recalls still active after alot of time? I need to look at mine I guess.

I know Temple is 100 miles from you, so there may be a source closer to you. For a little more than $100 I bought a heavier hitch from Husky Trailer & Equipment after mine cracked. If yours is cracked all you will get is another sorry hitch from Dodge. If you don't tow trailers with hitch weights over 500 pounds don't worry about it.

The trailer hitch recall was a safety recall that applied to all factory equipped hitch's(I believe they will cover dealer installed as well) from 94-01. If your hitch failed before the recall came out, and you had a receipt for your new hitch. DAIMLER would reimburse you for up to $185 I believe it was. The recall involved first inspecting the hitch for cracks. If no cracks were found we would install a support bracket at the very end of the frame rail down to the receiver. The hitch's that DODGE sold after 2001 already have the mounting holes there, but you have to drill the 2 holes to bolt it up. As far as I know, a safety recall never expires unlike courtesy recalls.

The factory reciever hitch on my 95 broke. One of the mounting tabs formed a crack right at the 90 degree bend where it bolts onto the frame. Lucky thing was it broke almost completely off when i hit a small dip in the yard and I was loaded up pretty heavy. Better there than on the hiway.

Please post the recall info, ph#, email, etc. if you have it available. I thought my hitch was only bent but now I'll need to seriously check it as I tow often. Thanks!!!

Any Dodge dealer across the nation can access your truck's vin and find out if the recall is applicable. Is your hitch factory? If so, and there are no added brakets, then you will want the recall done. Even if the recall has been done, like said before, recalls are good for the life of the vehicle. Just make sure it had the factory tow package, and original hitch. I have seen ONE break that had the additional brackets too. Wasn't pretty for truck or trailer.

Ok, thanks. I just called Dodge and have it schd for repair/replacement....even though they say it's already been done. If it's cracked again, they replace it again. Thanks for posting the recall info.

Took the truck in to the dealer today to have the hitch checked and/or hopefully replaced since it is bent downward. Just afraid that if it's bent now eventually it will crack and break/fail. Will post the results. The hitch is rated a 10k lbs.

Took mine back a few years ago and they replaced the whole hitch due to cracks. That was great considering I was pulling a 6 ton trailer with sand on it the day before.

Well the dealer just replaced the small angle brackets. Did nothing for the bent hitch. Thinking it may be the slide in hitch from southwest wheel that is bent. This is the second one.
