tire question?

my 2005 dodge had the death wobble at 12,000 miles with the bfg 315's. the dealer put them on before i bought it and they agreed to get my oem tires to replace the 315's. would i be making a mistake putting a 285 bfg all terrain t/a on the truck. these 265's ride very rough and look tiny compared to what i had. thanks.

Welcome to DTR. I've been running 285's for a bit more than a year and so far they have been good. It's my understanding that it's more than the tires causing the wobble, and you may well end up with the wobble with stock tires. Have you checked out your front end?

the dealership checked the front end out three separate times and said it was the tires every time. at first i thought they were full of it but now i think they might be right. that is a lot of rubber to try and balance and who is to say that they were not "out of round". i definitely think the front end on the dodge has some weakness because you dont see this issue with other trucks with 315's. i might keep the stock tires on for a while and see what happens. thanks

Thumbs up tompdog

No, you would not be making a mistake by putting the 285's on. I have them and they are a great tire however word of caution, they love to throw stones .

I too had 315's but didn't like them for towing the 5th wheel, therefore I purchased the 285/70/17 BFG A/T's and have loved it every since. I like the look of the 285's as well.

This is my truck on 285 BFG's. I think they are an excellent tire. Good compromise between the stockers and 315's. Mine have about 8000 miles on them now and show almost no wear.

Death Wobble.

I had death wobble with factory tires. The dealer replaced the steering stabilizer and have never had a problem since. If you want, you can unbolt the stabilizer up front and "stroke" it and if notchy or easy as heck to push in then it needs replaced.

Oh yeah and those 285s look amazing. Theyre definetly my next set.
