timing pin retainer clip tips

Looking for tips on how to reinstall the timing pin retaining clip. Mine does not want go in at all. I have pulled the throttle linking off and the fuel filter. I want to be able to do this while the injection pump is still on the truck. Just looking for any suggestions.

Thanks in advance

I have just let the o-ring hold the pin in the housing. It has held my mom's in for over 100K; in my old 91 for 70K. I normally have to remove the pin to find TDC for valve adjustments. Then I mark the balancer and dont need the pin anymore.

tried that, blew 2 of the pins clean out of the engine. or vibrated out. Don't get me to lying as to how they disappeared. The junkyard is getting short of TDC pins though...

Case IH carries them, too.
