Those that have just done T/C & VB

How has it been holding up ? I have searched and read every thread concerning full built vs just the T/C and VB. I would love to get a full built for future mods (mild power, no boosted launches), but I would like to know how those that just replaced the converter and valve body are holding up ?

I'd like to know the same. This will be my next "high dollar" mod.

I had done that on my 03 when it was mildly modded. When I decided to go the 500hp route I ended up needing all the other internal trans parts to hold that kind of power. I ended up having to spend all that labor money a second time.
As to the question, my truck responded very nicely to just those upgrades and held up with no issues for about a year. If you don't plan on going nuts powerwise your trans will hold up just fine. I would pull all the bands and clutches while the trans is out and inspect them for escess wear. They are pretty cheap so you really should just go ahead and replace them while it's out.....

Hey Dodgezilla. Did you have a 47re on your 03 SO. Is their a huge difference between that and the 48re with a TQ and VB?

So far so good, and I'm right around the 475+/- HP range. Knock,knock,knock,knock....... Huge difference from stock as well

I did an ATS TC & VB and kept it like that for about 2 years. Laying down 520rwhp with no problems. When we pulled the tranny to go through it a few months ago the TC looked new. Only when I did the CP3, twins and Smarty mods did I decide to built the heck out of the tranny. As long as you clutches are still in good shape, I say go for it.

Mine had the 47RE. It was easy to tell on mine because I had the window sticker..
The 47re with the converter and VB is probably better than the 48re in stock form. I'd say the 48re is good for about 75hp or so more than the 47re. Mine did fine with just those two mods but I eventually chose to do the whole trans so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

The 48RE responds very well up to about 500hp with just a v/b and t/c. The already have the upgraded clutch packs and planetary gears. I have sold tonnes of these combinations with great results.
