Strange smell after changing to Rotella T
Hey Guys, I am new to the forum and the world of diesel, but what a great world it is so far. Anyways after 11,000 on my 07 quad ctd I change to rotella t syn. oil I have noticed a oil smell coming from the truck its not burnt smell but its definately an oil odor, I was wopndering if anyone else has experienced anything like this, I have double checked and there are no leaks. Thanks for any input and what a great site.

are you getting any seeping around the valve cover. I changed to rotella syn and it seems that the gasket between the valve cover and head is leaking ever so slightly. the head looks like it is damp.

Smell comes form the crankcase breather located at the rear of the engine. And as above after some miles the smell will mostly go away. There are many posts concerning this issue but totally normal and a "feature" of Rotella and you don't even have to pay extra for it.

I concur with the statement above - Rotella syn does stink as well, just not as bad as the Rotella dino.
I just bought some Delo 400 today (CJ4 rated - ugh) to replace the Valvoline that's in the truck now. I know for a fact the Valvoline doesn't smell, but it looked like the Delo 400 did a little bit better (again CJ4 rated) in the TDR oil test than the Valvoline. For more information on that go to this thread: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=136899
Does the Delo 400 stink? I thought I read somewhere that it didn't....
