Steering Box

Mom Hit the ditch with the first Gen. Now the steering is a bit loose. Heard something about a screw on the top of the steering box. Any advise is appreciated.

I bet she tore the box loose from the frame. Take a good look at everything before you try adjusting the box.

The box still appears to be attched, no cracks or anything, it was always a bit loose, but it is worse now.

Last Time I Messed With The Screw On Top It Drove Like Poop And Never Got It Back To Where It Was. Check The Coupling On The Bottom Of The Middle Shaft. If It Has A Lot Of Ware It May Be Ready To Let Go. Dont Wish To Scare You But I'd Rather You Look
Than Hear The Worst Had Happend.my.02.

The box should be tight to the frame.

You can go too far in tightening up the box- it will restrict flow from the p/s pump, apparently. I sent my parts store reman box off to PSC to get rebuilt. It was great for the 6mo I had it on the truck beffore I sold it.
