i would say on your 90 the spedo is driven mechanicaly. Check the spedo adapter.

I disassembled the cluster and hooked up the speedo to a 12 volt power supply and nothing I tried my fuel gauge and it work fine. Does it have to be hooked up to the sensor on the trani for it to work? I noticed that one of the resistors was a little burnt at the connection on the board don't know if that makes a difference. I also put another sensor on the trani don't know if it was good since it was used.

on my 89 there is a spedo cable running from the transfer case to the back of the guage cluster. It should be mechanical. Did it work before you took the cluster out?

I bet the drive is toasted. Take a good look and make sure the hole the VSS shaft fits into is not all rounded out.

Thanks Wanna I'll take a look at that this weekend between wrecks and other tows. hey chrisreyn that link did not work is that in the sticky? I know that there is a worm gear in the tranni to control the speedo and the wear out, but is there a way if the actual speedo is bad because i noticed one of the resistors a little burnt on the back, is there a way to fix it?

thanks jeremy
