silly surges
so i have a weird problem. i have looked over the forums to find something like this to no avail. anyways. my truck surges under load. like if i romp on it it kinda acts like its not getting fuel. i have my drag comp up all the way. and propane off. but when i turn the propane on it runs great. im hoping the injection pump isnt dieing. i have had enough problems with this truck.

Might be worth checking
I had a surging while under high throttle/load for a long time that was intermittant. Even after replacing my tired VP-44 (truck ran better) but still surged under heavy throttle. Kinda like cycling your foot on the accelerator pedal really fast. Checked everything and came up zilch.
Started getting a boost voltage low code now and then and finally sprung for a new boost/map sensor. Problem went away. I cannot prove it but I think the boost sensor was loosing internal connection at a certain boost level and intermittantly telling the computer that there is no boost and to de-fuel and then making up again and letting the truck fuel again only to de-fuel again. VERY ANNOYING! When the truck did this the boost would top out at 23 psi vs the normal 30 plus on WOT run.
My experience only. Please don't run out and buy a boost sensor without being sure it will help as they are pricey.
My .02
Hope this helps.

things I left out.........
I should probably include that my lift pump pressure was always at least 8 psi minimum on WOT run. Replaced bad injector pump and checked all of the usual stuff that ails a VP-44 cummins and found everything to be OK until I started getting the low boost voltage code.
Did not notice the surge with comp off and surge was progressively worse as I turned the comp up through its five levels.
It finally pointed to the truck defueling but I did not know how to test for that and at almost 10 years old I figured I owed the truck a new sensor. So far (2 Months) no surge at all!!!!!

I have experienced the same thing about 2yrs ago. Dodge replaced lift pump and transmission under warranty and it did not fix the problem. It turned out to be the "Ottomind" or brain of my Banks Powerpack. If I removed the ottomind it ran fine. After replacing the ottomind, all symptoms went away and it cost me a couple hundred dollars for the brain. Unfortunately a couple weeks ago, it started again!! So Im going to send this ottomind out to Cali for testing for $40. Ugh. Hope this helps! Are you able to easily remove your EDGE module and have it tested?
