Replacing the door hinges on an 01.
I got myself a brand new pair of door hinges for my truck as the ones on there now look like they have been through the Boer War and back again..
the lower one is easy but the top one looks to be a PITA, has anyone changed these and if so how did you go about getting at the bolt for the top hinge that is from the dash side?
Someone mentioned I would have to "roll" the dash to do it, if so how in depth is that?
Any help would be appreciated
Jason

I haven't done a later truck, but i imagine your 01 should be similar to my 97
I removed the kick panel, and pulled the e-brake loose. That gave me access to the bolts.
Don't drop them, SOB to retrieve.
I removed the top hinge and rebuilt it with a Motormite bushing & pin kit. (Don't remember which kit.) Needed a 1/4" extension to get between the body & door to pull another bolt loose.
Propped the door up with a 5 gal bucket and some wood stacked on top.
This is 1 project that I didn't take photos. kick myself now. I'll take photos when I re-do the passenger door this year.
I discovered that waiting until you shut off the engine BEFORE opening the door really saves on the hinges.

I am not sure if that is going to do the trick. The bottom hinge wasnt a problem as I have had it off before but the top hinge looks to be a real treat, I have a funny feeling the 01 is different...
If anyone with the new style interior could chime in on this to confirm I would appreciate it.
BTW, thanks for the response Fueling around.

I just bought new pins and bushings from NAPA for 12 bones cause the dealer wanted too much money for the whole hinge. All that you have to do is remove the door from the hinge leaving the hinge on the truck and grind the old pin out. After that replacing them is a simple bolt on the end of the pin.
