Remove Body lift!
Remove Body lift!
Hey all I just purchased a 2500 Extended cab, long wheelbase 4x4 with 4" suspension and 3" body! I wasn't looking for a tall truck and prefer not b/c it sits high enough stock for what I do so I'd like to reverse as much as possible! b/c it only has 33" tires and it is my understanding they will fit stock!
I have put body lifts on my old trucks (1976 chevy) but haven't anything newer or dodge....
from you that have done it...is it anything more than replacing with stock lenghth bolts and remove spacers? (I may replace fuel lines while there is space if it needs it)
Would anybody want a 3" body lift that I remove?
I'll wait and see but the 4" suspension lift may be tolerable but it may not...has anyone removed one before? Has anyone else put one on and have stock springs/parts to replace my 4" ?
Thank you! I loved the condition of this truck so it is worth buying it for the condition alone!
Any help appreciated
JT

Look for any adapters that might have lengthened your steering column under the hood. Look for possible binding in the brake lines, wiring harnesses, boost hoses, radiator hoses, fuel filler, bumper reloc. brackets, bed/frame spacers, etc.
I'd suggest calling whatever company made the lift and asking them to send you some directions.

Yeah, fill in your signature so we know what we are dealing with here.
As far as removing the body lift, the 2 main things I see to keep in consideration will be to check if the radiator fan shroud has been altered (if not removed altogether) and if the truck is equipped with an automatic that the transmission shift linkage has been altered. Give the steering shaft a once over as well. Otherwise, the body should just settle back down on the frame. Might consider throwing some new body mounts in there while it is apart, too.

i may be interested, but i dont know i i want a body lift. i already have 12" suspension, and its going to be ALOT higher as soon as i can get enough $, but i doint know if i want 3" of body lift, because i have heard of 3" bodylift bolts breaking. so pm me, and let me know what size the body lift bolts are, and what your trying to get for them.

Well I guess I better chime in here......since I have a body lift on mine. If you go to remove it....
1. Take the spacer out of the steering shaft
2. Loosen the intercooler piping bolts and check to see if the intercooler pipe on the drivers side as been shortened at all.......if so buy a new one!!
3. Fan shroud may not be a problem.....mine was a one piece so all I did was trim the bottom to fit......but double check it to be safe.
4. If it's an automatic, chances are that there was a spacer welding onto the shifter linkage.....it won't have to be removed but you will have to loosen the nut and adjust the linkage back to stock.
5. Remove the bumper brackets and buy some factory ones to put back on.
6. Obviously by all new body mount bolts
That is pretty much it........the body lifts on these trucks are about the most easy thing to do.........took me 4 hours to install it and that was taking my sweet time.

Actually this may sound retarded but I haven't seen the truck in real life...I bought it off of ebay and I started this post when I was trying to decide if Lift, KDP, age of the truck were in the range that I wanted to tackel! so I am now officially the proud owner. (but haven't seen it other than pics) I had a trusted friend check it out b/c he is closer and I only get 1 day off a week for the month of Jan. So he confirmed everything and sent pics and with ya'lls reassuring I bought it!
I'm excited now I'm setting up a time to pick it up!
