I went back 1 1/4 inch like the directions say, probe bottomed out. I'm sure the directions are off 2nd gen. Instead of the spacer that came woith the probe (directions say the spacer is for post turbo mounting), I used a threaded brass fitting. If I had to do it again, I'd go at least 2 inches, maybe more. It looks like the manifold is deeper further back, and would clear more of the probe.

That is a problem with the Autometer probe, its pretty long. I just use some of the parts from a compression fitting as they are the same thread as the fitting with the probe. Backed the probe out about 1" and tightened the fitting.

The photo directions you want are at TSTProducts Install page. I would flip to the front bank to do the install but the instructions are bang on.

J-eh

Yup, you can "stand it off" using an extended fitting. Normally the "J" type thermocouple is the one used in the manifold.
Do NOT go all the way back into the main body of the manifold though...not a good plan.
You only need 1/4" to 3/8" of the probe sticking into the exhaust stream to get a good reading.

Bob.

Yep that was the info and picts I saw before and lost it. Thanks.

By the way, I plan in the future to turn up the pump and add a 16cm housing. What boost gauge do I need a 35 or 60 lb?

Thanks again

Re:Pyro picts and directions

Ok, went out and got the gauges today and started the install. Only got as far as runnin the wires for the pyro and the tube for the boost. Got all the electric ran. Now it's time to drill, tap for the pyro and onnect the plumbing for the boost.

On the 92 is the hole for the boost under the air intake on the drivers side? There is another one toward the front of the engine that has a tube goin to the fuel pump. The one I am talkin about is back toward the rear under the air intake.

The other question is drilling the pyro hole. Should it go toward #1 cylinder or #6? I know it is supposed to go on center two inches back from the flang but it says I can put it to the front 5/8's or to the rear 5/8's. Which is better?

Anyone using the Autometer pyro. How far back do you have to go to get the proper depth for the probe?

thanks

You're talking about the right boost fitting.
As far as the pyro - the trucks I've seen have them to the rear. I don't think you can stick the Autometer probe all the way in the manifold - look further up the post, Lil' Dog had a good solution.

Re:Pyro picts and directions

Yea some one said that the #1 ran hotter than the others. That was why they were saying to put it to the front.

I talked to Autometer today and he said just be sure the probe didn't bottom out in the manifold. I asked him about disturbing the air flow and he said it wouldn't hurt a thing. He said even the racers just put em in. They don't worry about how deep the probe is in. Just wondering what you guys have done. Will be out of town this weekend but will finish the work on Monday. (I hope)

Thanks agian
