pump woes?
ok this started happening yesterday. truck is fully warmed up 1/4 tank of fuel. you know how a stock 1995 12v starts cutting fuel at arong 2300 rpm but will rev to about 2650? well ive had my truck there lots of times except yesterday when i hit 2500 rpm the truck emits a large cloud of black smoke and it seems that there is a bit more power too. truck has no fuel mods, just bhaf and 4" straight pipe. is something going on the pump or what? didnt think to check boost when it does this but i know it used to peg and 23 psi and stay there in the past. going on a long trip in a couple days and i need to know if this is safe to drive or what to fix. thanks in advance

Could be a turbo leak... or waste gate opening too soon...'course that doesn't explain it feeling like more power, but it would make smoke. Check all the boots on the pressure side of the turbo for cracks, holes or loose clamps.

just thought of that actually. except stock turbo has no wastegate? figuring i might have sprung a leak in the air system. it doesn't do it in first or second gear but will in 3 rd unless truck is thoroughly warmed up, and i didn't get a chance to c what happens in 4th cause its going pretty quick by then. won't do it outta gear, even though the truck regs freely right to 3k? seems like a bit of a high rpm to reach for stock pump for me....but ill take it. will look for leaks then i suppose
