power steering pump vacuum pump help plz
so the shaft in my power steering pump broke..no steering no brakes..had to have truck towed..that sucked..shop put in new shaft but is telling me vacuum pump is bad..? can the pump be rebuilt? i have truck back it drives ok but i have to let it warm up before i can drive it cuz steering is looked up and no power to brakes..when it happened i had oil every where but power steering pump was full, not clean like i thought it would be. Help plz.

Yes the pump can be rebuilt, depending on internal damage. I ordered a kit thru Schied and it took about an hour to remove the pump, clean, rebuild, and have it back on. Its very simple inside. Breaking the shaft sounds odd though. One shaft slips into the other via coupling. If oil was everywhere then I'd suspect the seals went out and something siezed from lack of lubrication. Pull it apart and look inside, its extremely simple, even with no mechanical skills.
