I've got a 2001 24valve that is stock. I'm going to run a straight pipe exhaust and low striction air intake. This is a work truck that I'm trying to improve performance and fuel mileage with as little $$ as possible. What power chip would be the best bang for the buck?

with any chip-either timing or fuel you need to upgrade the lift pump first and at least a pyro and boost guages. A good lift pump suggestion is the air dog 100/150 (im getting my 100 on monday) and then either a edge EZ or a ts MVP are both really good entry level chips. The only difference really is the EZ will blow mure smoke than the MVP, both give round 60 hp and milage depending on how you drive it.

i think the quadzilla xzt+ is the best bang for the buck (at DTR store prices).
i have read that those who have run both the EZ & XZT+ prefer the XZT+. also, it has a variety of different tunes to choose from, depending on if you want a mild or more aggressive upgrade. the different tunes also allow you to add cold engine protection and manual & automatic high idle features.

i have recently just upgraded my truck this summer as you see it in sig. i am very happy with the performance gains & features to dollar value ratio!

i have yet to see a MPG increase, but that is due to my new found excitement with the mild power upgrades . . .

There are definitely lots of choices out there. The Edge EZ is a very simple install and usually is going to supply an increase of anywhere from 2-5mpg. It will be 50hp and 150ftlbs of torque. Gauges are definitely a good idea, but if you didn't want to add anything other than a chip this would be the one to go with. If you chose to go with gauges take a look at the Juice with Attitude. It gives you 5 different power levels and best of all you get gauges with it. It will monitor exhaust gas temps, boost and most importantly lift pump pressure. It is more than the ez, but if you priced the ez and gauges it is a better deal to go with the Juice.

Amen to that, I couldn't be happier with my Juice. Add a Smarty down the road if you really hate your tranny...

You didn't list your transmission.
Stock injectors are a detriment to best mileage and 40-100 hp injectors help a lot here.
Then a Smarty helps you to tune it.
As always you must have guages--pyro, fuel pressure, trans temp(if auto), then boost. You should add a turnbuckle to the turbo (if auto trans).
Any more and you need to address the trans.
Better torque converter and shift kit/valvebody will help any STOCK or up graded dodge.

I second the XZT!



I have one on my truck and I am very happy with. Makes some nice power for being a mild box. Lots of different tunes you can download to it, I'm running the 3000, probably smoke a little more with that one but it also fuels a little hard too. The high idle is nice for winter time too. I'm running mine with a 4 inch straight pipe, an Amsoil BHAF, and the wastegate on the turbo turnbuckled shut. Goin down the highway I noticed about 1.5-2 mpg increase after I got done with my mods. You can usually find a used XZT or an EZ for a good in the classified if you don't have the money for a new one.

They pretty much said it all.
If your looking at keeping cost down, EZ or XZT+. but gauges offer real piece of mind and the Juice/attitude gives you just that, How ever a low fuel press light with the EZ/XZT+ will work just fine. The light comes on at 5psi I think.
That might be the way to go money wise.

I loved my EZ but the new downloadable XZT+ drives a good deal.
Of coarse Juice/Attitude and Smarty are my two favs.

I run a fuel pressure gauge on my 99 cummins that's stock and am considering a tuner and like the edge with juice because I can save the money on gauges. The edge juice is as trustworthy as far as accuracy goes compared to individual gauges right? Trying to keep cost down. Great post and thanks for the help!

Ive been told the boost gauge is an "estimate" of your boost lbs. I have a mechanical boost gauge gauge I use on my dash because of that. But also cause I got the gauges back when I had an EZ.

Ive only noticed the attitude gauge being 1-2 lbs lower compared to the mechanical at times.
All other gauges it offers are spot on though.

I have the TS MVP and really like it....It is infinitely adjustable and the power level is much better than the old VanAaken I had..
