pop and tap while turning

as you can tell by the title my truck for about the last 2 months has been making a poping sound when i turn and as soon as i hear the sound it feels like something is smacking the driverside floorboard with a golf ball. but it will make this sound for about a week then it will go away then come back. i looked under the truck but couldn't see anything out of the norm. the lower ball joints were replaced about 3 months ago so they are new. i was maybe thinking the steering rack or something but it looked fine

thanks
marty

Check the cam bolt on your control arm (lower arm that attaches to the axle from the frame w/ round washer that has numbers on it). One of mine was loose and made a pop from time to time.

Mine still makes a pop when I turn and I'm suspecting my control arm bushings may be shot.

Good luck.

Mine just started doing the same thing, except for the golfball hitting the floor sound. Mine makes a pop when I turn and it started out only when I turned right. I've been wondering if it is the upper balljoints, like you my lower balljoints were replaced not too long ago. I still haven't figured out why they didn't do the uppers at the same time.

It sounds like the track bar needs to be replaced. My 1998 1500 4x4 would start popping making tight turns when the track bar needed to be replaced. When the bushings on the ends get worn the bar will bind and pop. I went through 2 mopar bars before finally replacing the last one with a moog track bar. The moog bar was much higher quality. This is a known problem with 2nd gen dodges. My old truck would also wander alot on the highway. The handling difference between the worn out mopar track bar and the moog track bar was night and day.

Try tightening the track bar on the passenger side. Also check the steering box mounting bolts.

Might also want to tighten up the shocks.

I agree it sounds like the Track Bar. Mine does the exact same thing. Have someone turn the wheel back and forth a little, and watch where track bar connects to the frame. This is where it wears out, and you can see it bind. Mine also makes that sound, that is an excellent way of describing it. You should look into a Luke's Link. That way you save money in the long run.

Mine makes the same sound and I can feel a little vibration in the pedals when it makes the sound. I have also noticed lately that there is a slight squeak when going slow. I think it might be the breaks, but it could be a bad ujoint.
