Any diesel rated oil, meeting the specs will be just fine, Rotella-T and Valvoline Premium Blue (my choice) seem to be the most popular around here.

But I don't know the answer to your question...

Well in that case I would still use Valvoline, in the proper weight. That is what goes in the wife's 4Runner, the Dura-Blend Semi Synthetic. All the major brands make quality oil.

Ask the oil nerds at bobisthoilguy.com (real site, not a joke). If anybody knows, they will.

While we are on oil, I was at Advance to pick up a gallon of 15W-40, to have around for the various little engines.

I got a gallon of their house brand for a little over $7.

I noticed Valvoline Blue was $10.88/gallon.

Is there scientific evidence that proves that the oil in the sexy blue jug is, in fact, nearly four dollars worth better than the oil in the plain jug??

I have religiously used Rotella, for years, solely because people that knew no more than I did said it was the best.

When I swapped in the Cummins, I started using Valvoline Blue, for no better reason than I thought the jug looked cool.

This was no big deal, back when Rotella was a little over three dollars a gallon, and the bargain brand was $2.95.

But, with a near four dollar spread in the price/gallon, I would like to know if the pricey oil will actually make my engine last longer, or am I just paying for a lot of fancy advertising??

Sorry to pirate the thread.

Thanks.
