Oil Pressure Question
Oil Pressure Question
This may be a dumb question. When I first start my truck, say after sitting overnight, it takes 4 or 5 seconds to register oil pressure. Is it actually running without oil pressure or does it take that long to show pressure on the gage. Thanks for your replies.
I actaully don't know the answer to this question, however this is normal. Even my other toy (turbocharged gasser car) with a nice aftermarket oil pressure gauge takes a few seconds to register any oil pressure.
Overnight your oil all drains down into the pan, takes time for the pump to draw it from the pan and start pumping, there for registering pressure.
EVERY car and truck in the world does this, unless the owner installs a "prelube" system. Expensive and Ive only seen them on racecars.

My understanding is the delay is also related to the electronics. On trucks that I've been in that have an added on mechanical gauge the pressure is up a few seconds faster than the stock gauge.
