Here is a stupid question for all you diesel guru's. I have what I would call an Excessive amount of oil coming from my dipstick tube. I know that at 233,000 mi I will have blowby, but shouldn't enough of it go out the blowby tube that it doesn't cover my injection pump, intake, and battery with engine oil. By the way, the plastic cover on the dipstick that goes over the top of the of the dipstick tube is all loose and probably part of the problem. I once covered the top of the dipstick with a plastic bag and zip-stripped it to the tube, and it really didn't spew as much oil as it looked like spread out all over the engine compartment. I am just annoyed by this problem, I don't think the truck will blow up tomorrow as it runs fine, but I hate getting oil every time I pop the hood.

My '95 with 200k+ plus doesn't use oil but started blowing the dipstick out a while back. All I did was replace the o-ring that holds the dipstick in, made for tighter fit. Problem solved.

Check your breather tube from where it leaves the side of the engine to the end of the tube. Be sure it is fully open all the way and not causing backpressure in the crankcase. If oil is coming out the dipstick tube you have excessive crankcase pressure.

To prove this is the problem try cleaning the tube and the area around it and leave the filler cap off and the pressure will be released and you will have no more oil coming from the dipstick tube. If you still have oil coming from the tube your crankcase is overfull with oil.

I was having the same problems, the plastic part on the dipstick that goes over the tube was loose and I was always blowing the dipstick out, covering the injection pump with oil. Went down to the Dodge dealer and bought a new dipstick and fixed the problem. They are expensive, around fifty bucks, but I think it was worth it to get rid of the mess.
