:'(My ol' reliable backup "92 Chevy,6.5 Turbo has an illness. The glow plugs don't come on so of couurse it won't start. Does anyone have an idea where to start looking. I can't even find the relay. Thanks

I done the glow plugs last fall and it has set a lot since I've been towing with the Ram. The light on the dash don't come on,and no juice to the glow's.

I doubt all the plugs went bad unless the relay stuck in the &quot;on&quot;position. Which happened to me once.<br><br>Check the wires at the GPs to see if the wire is hot. A Simple automotive light tester will do.<br><br>Does the Wait to start light cycle? and the lift pump prime when you turn the key on.<br><br>If not. possibly the relay is stuck in the Off position.<br><br>The relay is located in different positions in different trucks. I dont know the specifics.<br><br>If the air temperature gets to 40-50 degress it should start without the glows.<br><br>dont ever use ether on a diesel...EVER!

Just don't use ether period! <br><br>I've seen the dammage many times! Bad business.<br><br>The only &quot;application&quot; I use ether in is the potato cannon. ;D<br><br>I wonder if I could stuff a scud in that thing and send it to Saddam??

(I had a 6.2 for a long time).<br>Anyway, on a 6.2, there is a glow plug controller mounted in the in rear drivers side of the engine. This controller senses engine coolant temp.<br>When the coolant is cold enough, the glow plugs will cycle on/off.<br>When the controller senses the coolant is warm enough, the glow plugs stop the cycle.<br>This controller can be seen (on a 6.2) at the back of the drivers side of the block. It has a wiring harness that goes into a plastic clip that connects to the top of the controller.<br>If the controller is faulty (And they often go bad), the glow plugs will not cycle, or come on at all.<br><br>Check all the things Hummin' Cummins said, and also check this controller as well.<br><br>Rich.

C'mon over and I'll show ya the can that mounts on the firewall of the 'ol dump truck. Button on the dash. Also handy to get any type of earth moving equipment going in the cold cold north. The key is how much to use. That is where the damage starts. The GM, F*rd and CTD are not designed to run on either.

;D I am very happy to say,it runs. I think it was the controller on the drivers side rear of motor. 2 leads + I think about 5 lead plug. 2 leads on outside were corroded,cleaned them and away we go. Probably wouldn't have fount it without your help. MEANY THANKS.<br>God Bless America,and support our troops.

If you ever notice your glow plugs cycling when they shouldnt (i.e. once the engine is warmed up) it can be a sign that this controller has gone bad.<br>It happend to me. I was on a trip, had been driving for a while, and then noticed my glow plugs stated to cycle.<br><br>I unclipped the wiring harness from the controller, and continued to drive without issue. <br>Replaced the controller and problem solved.<br><br>Rich

Thanks,I will keep an eye on it. It is a little old and has 455,000 on it. Sure hope this one that cost 10 times as much will do that a lot cheaper.<br><br>As for : old reliable,what am I supposed to drive while waiting for parts,getting into a shop and all the other fun of the great white? First failure in about 5 yrs. Not driven much.
