need help with crimestopper install

I got a crimestopper rs900vi i am tryin to install...mainly for the cool down timer but anyhow...i got a haynes manual cause i thought it would give me the correct pinouts for the ecm/pcm etc... and well, i thought it would identify all the wires, but it really is almost no help. Do i need the expensive service manual from dodge. i would rather not, but will if i have to. If its any help, i already have a keyless entry and would like to bypass it to use just the crimestopper, has anyone done this or have any advice for me.

Not sure about the crimestopper but most aftermarket electronic devices have a website that gives good wiring diagrams for most every vehicle.
If not you're stuck with the Chrysler manual. You really should have one anyway, just one repair that you do for yourself will pay for it.

I installed a remote starter with keyless entry in mine, leaving the OEM KE hooked up for the wife. She did not want the start feature on hers. Below is a link to the website of my RS unit. They have picture of how to hook up the door locks, along with color codes and locations of wires.

ok well after 5 hours of attempted installation today, i still have nothing. parking lights don't blink, dosen't remote start and timer dosen't work, and even though i checked every single option for the power locks, i still can't find em. I did not have a black/gry tach wire, but i had a gry/blk that i connected it to. when i hit the start on the remote, the acc comes on but no start. When i try the turbo timer, which i still am not sure how to control timer, truck will stay on forever until i hit switch again. any ideas guys? i was willing to take it somewhere and pay for them to finish, but when i got there they said they can't cause its a stick and liability. ahhhhhh

Dang. I wish I could help, but mine is different wiring than yours. Like I said in the PM, mine works great. It even starts when I was in school today, about 400 feet away in a performing arts room with lots of electronics and interference. To program the turbo timer, you need to connect the green wire to a switch that goes to ground. preferably a momentary on-off switch. hold the brake in, flip the switch (to ground the green wire) for each minute to idle down. You will see the lights flash once for each minute you selected. As far as the lights go, just connect the wire right at the switch. that icdynamics was all I needed.

It also sounds like you got the wrong starter wire.

Actually on second thought, does your truck have a security system on it? That may be why it isn't starting.

you have to have your foot on the brake to use the turbo timer? i didn't and when i ground the green wire i can hear clicks in the unit, but the truck runs constantly. its crappy out so i'll have to wait till tomorrow to check it out.

Oh boy. Sounds like you're in a bit of a fix. No offense to you 98 2500, because you were just trying to save some money by doing it yourself (which is what I did when I installed my DEI Python 881XP by myself). But these units are really quite complex and unless you already know what you're doing (are a professional) or have the ability to easily get fast tech support from someone who does, I really don't think it pays to try and just wing it yourself. Unfortunately, you're finding this out later rather than sooner. Let this be a lesson to others.

But alas, hope is not lost. There are some folks I know that can help you through every step to make it work just right (assuming that nothing has been damaged so far). Basically though, I decided to go with a DEI unit because DEI has Installation Guides and Users Guides for ALL of their current products available for download on their website. I felt like that said a lot about the company and the products and could get me through some installation problems, even if my online tech support people were out of touch at the moment. Sure enough, it paid off.

Anyway, what you need to get started (again) is a wiring diagram for an alarm/remote start/keyless entry system specific to your vehicle. Basically a table that says "Tach Wire: Gray/Black", etc. Oh, and yes, the tach wire might be Gray/Black instead of Black/Gray. I can't remember which it is, but my wiring information said it'd be one and it was actually the other (there wasn't one in the harness that was the same as what the diagram said it would be). Anyway, to get this wiring diagram, I recommend you start a thread over there at the Sound Domain Security Sense area and contact IAmMurph about your specific truck. I have one for my 2001 Ram 2500 and I doubt they're any different, but it's possible. The wiring diagram also has important little notes about some of the wires.

The more options you're trying to involve, the harder it gets. If you're trying to integrate this with your power locks (to give you keyless entry), you're probably going to have to go buy a Bosch relay, since our trucks use 5 wire unlock triggers instead of the typical single or dual wire triggers. Also, once you get this system working, stop using your factory keyless entry fobs. It will conflict with your remote start system.

Go to Sound Domain and start a thread. That's how you're going to get through this. I can't answer all your questions, so I'd just move all the info over there to Sound Domain.

Just put the exact same one in my truck about 3 weeks ago. Had a few questions while I was in the process and hollered at my buddy installer and he told me what to try. All said and done I had one wire hooked up wrong. All works awesome now. If you want to describe specifics and where you hooked wires to me I can most likely walk you thru it, its still pretty fresh in my mind.

I appreciate your help guys...I really only got this for the turbo timer, and the reason it wasn't working is cause i didn't have my foot on the brake So i used the valet/programmer momentary and put it in the steering column, works great so far. Is it supposed to keep your lights on during cooldown. And yeah it is very complicated, and being an electronic engineer, i thought it would be a piece of cake. Well it wouldn't be that hard if the wiring was explained better/more correctly.

I guess ol Stat007 was right about the DEI products, which are easy to install with good instructions. I give him props for that and I think he convinced me to get one of those instead.
