Mileage Mods

Dollar for dollar what are the most cost effective mods to improve fuel mileage and in what order?

What can you mod without voiding the warranty?

This is my list, am I on the right track:
1.) Air intake or aftermarket high flow air filter?
2.) Bigger exhaust
3.) Chip / program - which one?

I have used the search function, but can not find such a thread.

Thanks

I have put a true flow filter and did not see much with regards to mileage, but what I did get was a little lower EGT's not much. I have Quadzilla and saw 1-2 mileage increase but no new exhaust yet. From what everyone says here unless you want big HP your 4inch exhaust would be fine. The biggest hit on your exhaust is the muffler and cat. You can straight pipe or replace your muffler. I will be replacing my muffler with a MBRP muffler but not for mileage. Mostly for lower egt's for towing and sound, increase in mileage would be a bonus. With the regards to voiding your warranty, almost anything you do might or will void your warranty, mostly depends on how the dealer feels that day. Hope this helps..

They will try and void your warranty for all of the items on your list except some exhaust. Unless you have a cool dealer who wants return business, I'd keep it stock.

....What am I sayin!! Bomb it! I never even used my warranty and still nothing has broken at 94k!

If you're looking for a chip for mileage I remember reading a thread here that the "Big G Mileage Miser" did what it said 3mpg more. You can alway remove the chip when you take it to the ***********. That's what I do with my quad std chip. From what i've read here DTR that almost all chips & programers will give you about +2mpg if you light on the skinny peddle.

Just be warned that if you put on a different muffler or straight pipe the exhaust you will more than likely get a terrible drone while towing. Enough to drive a guy .

1. I don't think you'll see any better mileage with an air filter.
2. Or with a bigger exhaust. Stock power and easay driving to get mileage will flow through the stock system well enough. But your EGT might go down a little. I love my exhaust (including the sound) but can't say I measured a mileage difference.
3. A chip with timing advance and conservative driving is the best bet out of your three choices.
4. Lower rolling resistance tires.
5. Slow down. This is the MOST effective of ALL mods for mileage, and maybe the hardest to do.

I now have a 41" donaldson 4" muffler on mine now and have towed my bassboat and have had no drone. It sounds like a big rig now.

a nice large brick under the go pedal will help a tremendous amount. Almost every chip/tuner will give you more performance in order to get the better mileage. Problem then lies in being able to withstand that power and not put the pedal down.
