Have a 99 dodge cummins turbo diesel (24valve) just had the fuel filter changed and was told by the dealership my lift pump was starting to fail.
My current pump sits ouside the tank, they informed me they no longer make this type of pump, and that my only option was to install one inside the tank!
$690.00 worth!!
My question is whether there is an aftermarket pump I can buy and which Auto stores might have one?

if i'm not mistaken, i believe you can go down to Cummins and get a replacement lift pump for like around $240 and put it on yourself, it's not too terribly difficult but that depends on how mechanically inclined you are.

as far as aftermarket, i would look and the FASS system myself. i plan on going that route in the future but my LP is fine for now so i'm gonna wait a while. you can either order it online or if you're good friends/customer with your local autoparts store they might be able to get it for you too, but not too sure if they could get a factory replaement LP or not but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

if you're interested in the FASS do a search to get some info...and also, i know there WAS, i don't know about now, an ad in the classified section for a brand new FASS system, never used. but it might be gone now.
