lift pump questions
someone just told me that it's possible to position the lp shaft improperly in relation to the cam such that the cam would break the shaft off. anyone ever hear of something like this happening or know how to be sure to avaoid doing it?
also wondering if the rubber elbow between the lp and pre-filter/heater can be replaced with regular 1/2" fuel line? the orginal seems to be a more solid piece that is pre-shaped to that bend.

If I remember right it is pre-shaped. I cant say that the arm CANNOT be broken, but it seems unlikely to me. It will be an easier job if the lobe is away from the hole, however, so that you can just bolt the pump right up and not have to try and depress the arm, lineup, and get bolts started all at the same time. Not fun. Just roll the engine a little until the lobe is out of the way. That's the way I did mine, no problem.

You can turn the engine over clockwise (the way it runs) with a 15mm socket from one of the crankshaft pulley/damper bolts. Or, you can turn it counterclockwise with a 22mm socket from the alternator center pulley bolt – much easier. Either way should work for you.
The hose between the heater/prefilter and the lift pump is a molded hose available from the Dodge dealer, part number 04746638 for about $5, the Cummins dealer doesn’t have it.
