I installed a new set of Nerf bars today and had to remove the covers off of the floor board just under the door where the paint meets the carpet. Under that area there is a channel and on the drivers side there is a wiring harness running through the channel. After I finished the install I put the covers back on and one of the self tapping screws nicked the wire harness. I did not notice until I started the truck up and noticed that the Radio was dead I also noticed that the dome light and the map lights are dead everything else seems to be working. When I started looking around for the cause I removed the floor cover again and discovered I had nicked a wire. I inspected it carefully and tapped the wire up and I figured that I had grounded this wire out causing a short. Well I thought I had blown a fuse somewhere but I have checked both fuse boxes and can not find a blown fuse anywhere. The dome light and the radio has 2 different circuits so I interchanged fuses no luck still not working. I thought that maybe it is the circuit that turns these items off the one where if you leave the dome light on it will shut off before it takes the battery out I 'm guessing here. Well anyhow I am stumped have any of you had a similar problem any help put there?

i found the location of the 'thing' that will turn the lights off after a bit of time...
if you look about 6 inches to the passenger side of the steering column, you will see a chintsy plastic box with a motorola sticker on it, and two wire harnesses pluged into it. mine, made an audible buzz. this is the piece '99%' positive that controls the light. i dont think that there would be anything inside the box that would burn up though...
you may want to really check the relays and heavy fuses in the engine compartment. the power for the amps (infinity system) run in those lines, among other things, and by the way...
how did you hit that harness with a screw? the harness is fastened to the floor about 4-5 inches away from that trim piece?

I found the problem It was a fuse as I thought. It was a 10 amp labled IOB and it had a fuse gaurd on it similar to the air bag fuses. Anyhow I replaced it and all is well.
