help ASAP electrical problem

ok got a problem here was loading up the bike tonight and had the hi-beam lights on and for no reason they start turning on and off ***!!! Then I turn on the low beams and it is fine light work, I go back to high and all is fine for a short time then back to the on off on off again ***!!! Now I'm thinking dimmer switch because only the highs are effected any ideas i need this fixed tomorrow because I take off back to Bismarck, ND

this is like daja-vu, last time I was getting ready to go back to BIZ I had the carrier baring start grinding and had to search around all over town to find one and install it before I left.

if you hear a small 'click' when the lights go out, there's probably a circuit breaker tripping...which means a short circuit or an intermittent short in the high beam wiring. check your fuses to see if someone has installed a circuit breaker in place of the fuse. otherwise, it's most likely a poor connection or dirty contacts in the dimmer switch.

A number of people have had issues with the dash switch. It seems to be age related problem.

X2 this is common with most dimmer switches.

I had a similar problem with an '93 dodge dakota. Headlights would go off randomly. A few times while driving 60MPH. I replaced the entire light switch and solved the problem.

When the lights would go out the dash lights would also go out and I'm pretty sure the tail lights would not work at that time.

i dont think the dash lights go out but i know the hi-beam indicator light does and i'll have to check on the tail light thing

Chech the wiring going down the steering column. Those have been known to break.
