Head swap and twins in under 10 hrs?
What are the chances that two well mechaincally guys could swap on a new o-ringed head, PDR twins, and a PDR race pump in about a 10 hr time frame? Cutting some time by putting the pump on while the head is off and putting the twins on while the stock turbo/plumbing is already off. The oil pan bung for the 2nd turbo is already welded onto the pan and ready to go. So it'd just be the turbos and plumbing mainly. (Think positive!)

Are you going to stud the head? Suspect any gasket leakage on present head? Don't know on a 12 v - may be easier, but it took a good 10 hrs just to firering & stud my 24 valve - done by someone who had done several before, with a replacment head ready to go.
Suspect Turbos & Plumbing will take longer than you might guess.

If the plumbing for the twins is copmleted and you are just installing them the answer is maybe if you are very fast and sure that you have every possible part needed available. If the hot and cold pluming has to be fabricated I don't think you can do it.
When we put mine back together we had over 6 hours in reassembling the head including chasing/tapping/cleasing the bolt holes and cleaning the block surface.
Good luck.

The new head is ready to go. Just have to remove the old head, swap some parts to the new head (rocker towers and some plugs, thermostat housing and lift brackets etc) then clean and prep the block, install studs, head gask, new head, set valves, bolt on the ATS manifold, HX 40, hot pipe, HT3b, cold pipes (already fab'd and ready to be put on - It's the PDR street twins kit) oil bung is already on the pan, got to spot weld two brackets to hold the HT3b, and I'm going to swap the pumps while the head is off for easy access to all the fuel and oil lines that goto it. Just trying to see how long I'll have the truck down for. My wife will not get off my butt about having to drive her 95 12v while mine's having the clutch installed at another shop. Just to add this on top of it. What about 12-13 hrs? (I have 6:30am-6:30pm to use the shop here)

Man I hate to be the one to throw a wrench in the gears but I'd say that is pushing it quite a bit, your looking at 2 hours on the pump swap by the time you swap the brackets ect, about 2 hours or better for the Twins and were not talking exhaust either, the head is time consuming but not hard(except for the back bolts) I just did a head swap on a truck and I spent at least 2 hours prepping the block, it was a perfect as I could get it. If you set some record let us know how you did it so fast.

Anything under ~15 hours would be impressive . One of the main things you have to remember when installing a fire ringed head is that the torqueing sequence TAKES FOR-EV-ER . The first time you torque the bolts there are 3 steps, then you put everything together. Drive it under LOW boost to heat cycle it atleast once, pull it back in the shop pull everything back off and re-torque while the block is still hot. This ensures that you get good compression on the rings. If the re-torquing step is skipped you could very well end up leaking water and having to do a whole nother head gasket swap . Then you put everything back on. And I forgot to mention setting the valves, which under normal circumstances is no big deal, but if you are out of practice or have never done it before, it will take a good while.
Any how that covers one minor detail of the job you are about to embarck upon... ONE, just ONE .
Did I mention setting timing ? No... thats because its better that I didnt . Again, timing is one of those things that, under normal circumstances, doesnt take too long, but if its been a while since youve done one.... HOLD ON
Any how, Good Luck and let us all know how it goes,
Scott

My 24v took 2.5 hours to get the head off last week, 2-3 hours of prep during this week and 5.5 hours to put it all back together tonight. I think you could mount the bottom twin in ~2 hours, top twin in 1.5 and I'm not sure about swapping the pump. I'd say you'd be very rushed to get it all in. May I suggest just doing the head if you only have a 12 hour spot?

I can say Jeff Garmon and I fabed a set of twins for a customer, and that is with me fitting and welding and Jeff working the turbo's. We started at 7:30 in the morning, with me removing the manifold. The truck was backed out of the shop at 7:30 that night to go on a test run. We finished and all was right with the truck, but I can say you had 2 whipped pups when we left the shop that night. Now mind you, that was with nothing put together and some parts we had to send after. We did it and could again, but I don't think we will. So if you can do all your doing in 12 hours, we missed something. And I thought we did so well.
