Engine trouble at 125k
So i just bought a 2006 with the 5.9 in it. Ran good on the couple test drives i took it on and the next few days after i bought it could not tell anything was wrong. I started smelling exhaust when i was at a idle comming through the AC. I took it back to the dealer and today they called and said that one of the cylinders was only running at 80 psi. So they think it is a broken ring but im startin to think this truck could be a lemon. It did the shutter shift also and threw a tranny code that was the low pressure govener sensor which i know from reading on here many of you have had problems with this. But have any of you had any engine trouble at only 125k? I have been a powerstroke guy for years but always here of cummins and how long they run so i bought one and have had nothin but problems so far. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

The problem is that it is a used truck. Unless you can get the maint. records for it you will never know how the previous owner treated it. If they ran the crap out of it and did little maintenance, just like ANY engine you can and probably will have problems at a very low mileage.
If I were you, I would work with the dealer to either get your money back or have them fix the engine to YOUR liking. Not just them saying "here ya go, it's fixed!"
Is it a Dodge dealer of other?

Unwind the deal if you are smart. This could become a long drawn out affair. Short block price is 10,000 and no dealer is going to shell out that much cash on a used truck. The truck should have been wholesaled.

Its not a dodge dealer but they do own a dodge dealership. They kinda speicalize in used trucks. They said they would fix all the problems at no cost but how much of that will they short cut? And if it is just a broken ring on one cylinder what does that mean for the rest of the block? Will there be the same problem on a different hole a few thousand miles down the road? I know the cummins motor should last a long time but with this problem arising so early does that mean my engine will see more problems sooner then it should or if fixed correctly would it be alright?

Governor pressure solenoid and transducer are simple and fairly cheap to replace plus you can change the fluid and filter at the same time. I don't trust the dealerships to touch my truck most of the time, if they are claiming low pressure on a compression test I would definately want to see it for myself before letting them do any repairs. I try to stay away from dealerships there are to many dishonest people just trying to make money. I agree if the previous owner beat the crap out of it and didn't do proper maintenance there could be problem after problem though.

Ya I second that opinion completely. I talked to the finance company yesterday to see what recourse I have and the only option is to get the dealer to unwind the deal which I dont see them wanting to do. So if thats the case i am stuck with it. Sounds like a pretty crooked deal but I guess I shouldnt expect much more from a car dealer.
