egt probe install

ok i installed the probe last night it all went with ease

first i searched and researched many many posts with and without pics on the (about 5 ) dodge sites that i go to

so i installed the prob pre-turbo in the top of the manifold closer to the rear( right before it dumps down) of the engine it seems like all the pics i seen this was the most common place for it

the instructions said make sure that the probe does not bottom out or touch the sides and the fitting seemed to have many threads on it and the probe was pretty long and seemed if i screwed the fitting all the way in then the probe would bottom out

so i tapped it about 3/4 of the way through the manifold( which still allowed me to screw the fitting in half of the threads) and then installed the probe it seems to be in a good place and depth as not not have to many worries

i got a new tap and die set that came with drill bits also and went to work with a small bit( i used three to get to my final size)and a magnet( but really did not need to magnet) i put lots of grease on the drill bit and drilled super slow taking the bit out every 5-10 seconds to clean off the shavings and re apply new grease

the way a drill but is made if you drill slow the shavings should work out and upward of the drill bit and not fall back towards the manifold esp if there is a lot of grease on the bit to hols it there

it was dark when i was done so i did not drive very much or very far only some idle in front of the house a few mile drive

i think ( rem it was late and dark lol)the egts seemed to be around 250-300 at idle and normal driving shifting up and down through the gears it seemed to stay between 300-600

i stepped on it one time as if i was trying to pass somebody or just horsing around and they jumped to around 1000 but that was really stepping on the truck hard but today i will get a better feel for the egts as i will be dring in quite a bit and up the highway also

all my edge and a-2 is hooked up and working i just need to spend some time finding the spot under the steering wheel to hook up the turbo timer( what is that for and what does it do) wire it seems to be a pain the the behind to find and install that wire

You can set the turbo timer to shut down the truck at whatever temperature you want when you shut the key off. I set mine to 290*. Others use anywhere from 300*-350*, the main reason is to allow the turbo to cool down enough so the oil doesn't coke to the bearings. Remember to turn the A/C off or the temperature will never come down to 290* and the truck will keep running.

To install the wire.
Look at the connector at the end of the wire your going to install, this will help you later to see what your looking for under the steering column and how to unclip it.
Set seat as far back as possible.
Lay on your back on the drivers side floor, head pointing up toward throttle pedal.
Look up under the steering column toward the steering wheel. You should see the connector that looks like the one on the end of the Juice wire.
Run wire up under knee bolster and under steering column.
Disconect wire from under steering column and plug in corresponding connectors.

I unhook and rehook all connectors without removing any shrouds, my hand gets a little scratched from surrounding metals but I figure it's easier than removing shrouds and a whole lot less time consuming. Around a 5 minute job from start moving the seat to finish. No tools needed.
