I was looking at a 1996 Fleetwood Angler 8a on Craiglist and the guy said it was too narrow for a dully between the jacks . He said his 2500 only had a few inches clearance .Are some slide in campers wider than others and is there a way around this. This will be my first camper . I have a 2007 3500 LB . Are there any other issues I should look for . I wanted this small camper because I pull an 8x20 enclosed trailer and did not want to deal with a hitch extension , and the price was right . Its a distance from here so I have not looked at it either .

They make swing out jack brackets. In while driving around. Out while removing or installing the camper on the truck. Do a google search for swing out jack brackets and the name of the jack manufacturer (bracket is pre-drilled for that jack).

With brackets out I have ~ 2" of clearance on each side.

Your dually is 96" wide at the fenders. Measure the width of the TC at the inside of the jacks, subtract that and divide by 2. That is the minimum distance each jack must swing out to clear your fenders.

IIRC mine swing out ~6" each. People have made custom swingout brackets for an even larger swing. They bolt onto the corner and use a medium strength adhesive (Sikaflex or 3M) to mount them, which actually does most of the work.

There's more that just width...I ran into an issue with my tie downs (not just my camper jacks) clearing the dually fenders. The distance between the front tie down and the rear tie down was too small to allow me to simply anchor to the frame mounted tie down. The Fast Guns (www.torklift.com) would've hit the dually fenders on their way down.

I had to put a pallet between the front bulkhead of the camper and the front of the bed. By pushing everything back 6 inches (onto the tailgate), I was able to secure the camper to the truck.

I have the dually brackets (and the whole thing is wobbly as hell because the "small" camper only has 3 legs). The dually brackets push the legs even further out, and make the wobbling worse (longer lever arm). I am still trying to figure out a "good" solution to the problem. I think I need to order a 4th jack, and push 2 of the legs out to clear the fenders, and securely support the other 2 legs.

If your camper is far away, find the closest RV shop and call ahead. You might need to order additional parts before you can head for home. I was lucky. My camper was on the way to a couple of my regular destinations so I was able to measure...think...plan...and order parts before I picked up the camper. Even so, it was a PITA (and still is since I cannot take the camper off to store it for the winter yet).

I had an older 12ft Bronco camper with swingout jacks. Fit on my '01 Dually fine. Just unbolted the jack from the bracket, bolted on the swing out then bolted the jack to the swing out.

You only need two of them for the front jacks only.

Thanks , I found the extinsions all over the internet but no luck at any local dealers yet . Guess I'll have to find dealers who sell the truck campers . Was kinda hard to look for something when you do not know what it is you are looking for .

It's hinged to allow the jack to stick OUT for loading/unloading, and swing IN for travel

The box goes between the jack and the bracket. 2 bolts and the jack and extension box can be quickly removed for travel.

I ahve the Titan swing away dually brackets. When I get the camper raised high enough to load into my 04 3500 Dodge they get really wobbly! To the point of being dangerous. Does any else have this problem?

All my campers were wobbly, the higher they got the worse they got. The newer of truck I got the higher and smaller the bed got and the worse the problem got.

I hated loading truck campers.
