What to do while motor is out? (And one more ?)

Other than a good scrubbing I am wondering what recomendations you have for me to do while I have the motor out, before I swap it into its new home. It has 196,000 on it. So far my plans are oil pan gasket, rear main seal, piston lift pump, port exhaust manifold, get rid of factory trans. cooler (to be replaced by an aftermarket unit), and possibly head studs. Anything else I should look at while the motor is out? And one more question, I was reading in the sticky about a 47rh swap and I was not clear if I would need to get a new t-case or if the one bolted to my 518 will work.

Don't forget the Killer Dowel Pin fix and tightening the case to block bolts while you're in there.

KDP and KCB. Lock tight all the case bolts and tab the dowell pin.

I did the KDP about 20,000 miles ago. And I was planning on a marine head gasket and studs, hopefully, head studs are so dang expensive. But probably worth it. Anyone know about the 518 t-case bolting up to a 47rh?

If it's on the stand, I'd re-seal the entire engine and look into mains and rods while the pan is off.

Is this the one you were reading? https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/....html?t=114702
To make a long story short, the 518 and 47RH overdrive units are the same for that purpose, so yes the T-case will bolt right up.

And like the others said, look at the rods and mains while you got it out, you won't get an easier opportunity to check them. A full reseal is a good idea also, timing cover to block gasket, tappet cover gasket, all those hard to get to spots, etc...

Thanks jd730, that answers my question. As far as its new home in my 88', I plan on painting the engine compartment and putting some good sound deadening insulation on the firewall before I drop the motor in.

Also make sure the oil pan is gonna last a looooong time. They are a pain to get off when the motor is in the truck.
