23 Mpg sounds high for a 3rd Gen but i might be wrong. How many miles do you have?

my 05 with 14000 miles is getting an average of ~18 empty. towing ~5000-6000lbs i get 12-14. this tank im driving it SUPER easy and <70 mph to see if i can break 20mpg.

what tranny do you and your friend have? if ur running the g56 and he has an auto, thatd be the answer. g56 has a relatively low OD ratio (comparable to an auto running 4.10s i beleive)

mine is 4x4. no chip. i drive mostly highway but encounter some traffic going to/from work. i rarely drive faster than 75 with my average being somewhere around 65-70 id guess.

btw, the 18 is hand calculated. the overhead isnt always very accurate fwiw

i got a flash from the dealer for mileage and i think it got worse
i used to get 14 w/o the chip then it went down to 13 or 12 after the flash
now with the chip on #3 i get 15 i drive highway all the time around 70-80 i even got the cold air intake and nothing. i cant see 2wd getting 7-8 mpg better than a 4x4 but maybe?
thanks

80 mph is the big mileage killer. Anything over 2000 rpm kills fuel mileage. How many miles on your rig?

The truck in my sig almost got 23 going to Maine last year, going 55-60 for a few hours, then an hour or so of 40-50. I was pleased as I only had ~ 3K on it.

I fully expect to get close to 25 mpgs doing the same once it's broken in. Call me but I think I can, I think I can.

17-18 with a mix of highway and city on average.

reset your overhead , fill it up and try to keep it to 65 mph. If I keep mine set at 65-67 mph I have got 20.85mpg on a 700 mile trip. Also inflate your tires to 65 psi.
