Dana 70 or 80?

I used to know what my rear axle was, but haven't thought about it in the last few years. I have a 2001 4x4 QC 2500 with the 6 speed and heavy duty transfer case. Can anyone tell me if I have a 70 or 80? I have a leaking axle seal and need to know what to tell the napa guy.

With a manual transmission it should be an 80. You can verify by looking at the tag that's attached to the bolt side of the diff. Also check inside your golve box for a label that might have the diff model # on it.

With a 6 speed, you definately have the Dana 80.

FYI the torque on that pinion nut is 440-500 ftlbs. Most people don't have a torque wrench that large. If you are going to rely on an impact wrench for the torque it is easy to over torque and cause yourself better problems than a leaking pinion seal.

Hopefully I'll only have to take the hub nut off.
