Cooler T-stat?
Mornin, DTR...
Are there any aftermarket cooler thermostats for our trucks? I'd like to see mine open around 180*.
If I'm a retard for wanting this, someone please let me know...
TIA!!!

All of my 3rd gens have run about 200-210 depending on conditions. There are lower T-stats HOWEVER, these trucks are designed to run HOTTER because of the 3rd injection event and you need it to run hotter for it to perform at it's best. I too was concnerned about this and this is the explanation I was given by a reputable Cummins tech.

i also dont like to see 200 and up,i went to my cummins shop and they sold me a 180 tstsat but when i got it home it didnt fit,i havent found a 180 for a 3rd gen yet,i removed a bell from the factory and it did run cooler but it took longer to warm up,i found a 180 that was the same size and looked the same but i was told not to put it in as the cummins needs a special one that flows more than a reg one,if anyone find one let us know the part number.

I have a 180 stat that I ran in my 03. It is a discontinued part from Cummins. You guys think what you want but in the heat of summer when towing a trailer in traffic I feel much better seeing my temps 15 or so degrees cooler. And YES the truck did stay that much cooler all the time. The only drawback is that when it's cold outside the truck would never warm up. I would just put the stock stat back in for the winter. I never needed it in my 07 and I'm hanging on to it in case the 08 runs warm in the summer......
