bigger turbo=more power???
if I put a hx-35 in my 1 gen how much of a power increse will i get and could it damage anything in the motor?

The turbo alone won't create a power increase; however, it will allow you to tweak the injection pump to add more fuel without reaching too-high exhaust gas temperatures.
You wouldn't damage anything in the motor unless you tweak fuel input too much and don't watch EGT's on a pyro, but that applies to any turbo that you have.
The HX-35 should be good for, what, 40 HP more than the H1C?

This summer I swapped in a used HX-35 off of a 98 12v. I don't have any dyno numbers but here are my observations/notes:
1) The hx-35 has a much smaller exhuast housing (12cm vs 18.5cm) so it spools up a ton faster, almost instantaneously.
2) I have my pump turned up a fair bit with roughly 2.5 turns in on the full fuel screw, ground down AFC pin, rotated afc pin and the star wheel almost maxed out. With this setup, on the stock H1C I was getting about 18-19lbs of boost max. With the HX-35 I'm now at 30lbs of boost (plus that nice whistle ). I'm sure once I get my 3200rpm spring in, I'll be up near 40lbs and I'll probably turn it down a bit so I don't pop the head gasket
3) The truck just gets up and goes a lot faster, not so sluggish and I'm not waiting a day for it to spool up.
If you plan on sticking with the stock injectors or going with mild (read 190s) injectors, an hx-35 is a sweet setup IMO. If you're going to dump more fuel into it, you might be better off sticking with the H1C and upgrading the compressor housing to help keep the EGTs from being thermonuclear.
Remember to make power in a diesel you have to add fuel. I'm sure if I put a set of DDP stage IIIs in my truck (I'm planning to down the road) I'd notice a huge gain, but then I'd have to upgrade my turbo, maybe an HTB2? If you want more power, add more fuel but balance it out with a good turbo setup to keep the EGTs reasonable.
